GR Yaris: Insights from Quick Shifter(Part4)

長いシフトレバーと紅いノブによるギアポジションインディケーター効果

I installed a quick shifter on the GR Yaris around July 2021. (For details, click here, here, and here.)

This time, I’ll share photos that should help you understand the shortness of the shift stroke.

I thought I had cleaned the smartphone lens thoroughly with a lens wipe, but the image ended up looking a bit like halation. I plan to take better pictures when I have time. Recently (November 2022), I also purchased an Olympus OM-1.

Now, the series of photos that will follow include shots from the top: reverse, 1st gear, 2nd gear, 3rd gear, 4th gear, 5th gear, 6th gear, and finally, neutral.

I took these photos from roughly the driver’s perspective.

Reverse

3rd
4th
5th
6th
Neutral

What do you think?

Huh! Can’t quite tell?

No, no, that’s not the case. Take a closer look at the position of the shift knob. You can somewhat see that it has a short stroke, right?

Huh! Still can’t tell?

Well, if that’s the case, let me show you photos from the passenger side.

From the top: neutral, 3rd gear, and 4th gear only are introduced.

Neutral
3rd
4th

Well, that’s about it.

Isn’t it a bit crazy that the stroke between 3rd and 4th gear is this short?

Next time, in “What I Learned from Installing a Quick Shifter Part 5,” I’ll pretend to know about the negatives of installing a quick shifter.

That’s it for this time.
