In the early morning, during a brightness that allows the road surface to be visible quite clearly, Rikutsu-Kone-Taro enjoys driving the GR Yaris on winding roads, specifically targeting the time period before local residents begin their activities.
Departing from home around 2:30 am, Rikutsu-Kone-Taro heads onto the Tokyo Expressway from a toll booth near home, circling around the Imperial Palace and swiftly driving towards the destination.
During this time, both the Tokyo Expressway and highways are relatively empty, providing a remarkably pleasant driving experience. Stopping at a service area along the way to fill up with gasoline, the journey continues towards the winding roads at the destination.
Exiting the highway and taking local roads towards the mountains, the picturesque fields on the mountainside and the slightly melancholic lights of the town in the basin create a sentimental atmosphere.
Climbing the winding roads with the high power of the GR Yaris, glimpses of Mount Fuji appear floating in the blue dawn sky between the trees and mountainous terrain.
It’s the best feeling.
For an ordinary Japanese person, there aren’t many moments as joyful as this.
On weekdays, the traffic congestion to Tokyo begins, so I kill time before starting my journey home. However, on holidays, I can return home by 9 AM, so I take my favorite route.
Whether it’s the round trip on the expressway or Tokyo Expressway, the deserted local roads leading to the winding paths, and, of course, the winding paths themselves, it’s both thrilling and exhilarating.
Not used for competitions, not honing skills on a circuit, the GR Yaris came to my home just to enjoy a bit of winding driving and the surrounding scenery.
It’s a motto to avoid causing inconvenience to the local residents with noise or litter, not becoming a nuisance to the police, and returning home without accidents.
