I, Rikutsu-Kone-Taro, removed the passenger seat and changed it to a 3-seater configuration during the vehicle inspection.
The reason for removing the passenger seat was that
- the headrest was obstructive during visual checks,
- and incorporating items like roll bars and power braces increased the weight, so I wanted to lighten the car.
- Furthermore, I didn’t have the financial leeway to buy bucket seats for the passenger seat for weight reduction purposes,
- and there was almost zero possibility of having someone ride in the passenger seat.
So, if the purpose is weight reduction, it might be suitable to remove the interior lining and rear seats, but it seemed like there might be aesthetic issues after removal, and since having the ability to accommodate two adults in addition to the driver might be useful in case of emergencies, I decided not to remove the rear seats.
Rikutsu-Kone-Taro is fortunate or unfortunate to have very few friends, so there’s practically no chance of having someone ride in the GR Yaris’s passenger seat.
Without the passenger seat, you can sit in the left rear seat during parking and enjoy a mechanic’s view of the car’s interior—a kind of secret base feeling.(Photo1)
It created a quite spacious area by removing the passenger seat, and it can accommodate tools, helmets, gloves, and even reasonably sized items. With proper protection of power brace corners, it seems like you could even fit a suitcase.(Photo2)
While Rikutsu-Kone-Taro doesn’t camp in the car, the modified space might be convenient for those interested in car camping. Perhaps for a couple with one child, removing the passenger seat could be an interesting option as an unconventional family car. However, if you actually want to make it a three-passenger vehicle, please do so at your own risk.
There’s no sense of confinement in the rear seats, and as mentioned earlier, you can bring in luggage. Anyway, for sports car owners with very few friends and an extremely low need for a passenger seat, removing the passenger seat could be an interesting choice.
Eh? A girlfriend?
Would inviting a woman to a sports car be appreciated?
Eh? A boyfriend?
I don’t know.
