Sun Protection for Boating: Prototype Edition

The summer of 2024 in Japan is extremely hot. Every year, people say that the summer heat is unusual, but this year it is quite severe. The key to enjoying boating while dealing with this heat is to block as much direct sunlight as possible.

Of course, it is important to avoid direct sunlight on your skin as much as possible, but it is also effective to keep sunlight out of the boat through windows and other openings.

Therefore, Rikutsu Konetaro decided to introduce a white sunshade, or rather a tarp or some kind of shading cloth, to match the color scheme of his beloved boat, the Merry Fisher 895 Sport. (Photos 1-3)

While relying on professional skills is important for boating, it is also crucial to pursue convenience and comfort through DIY efforts, using wisdom, ingenuity, and physical labor.

The installation method of the sunshade shown in the photos is still in the prototype stage, so I would like to further refine it to make a shade that can be quickly rolled up and suitable for navigation.

Stay tuned!

That’s all for now.
